Big day today - England's biggest game in the EPL
Liverpool v Man Utd, there are other games but this is the daddy. Mancunians hate Scousers and likewise. They sing sounds about killing each other and burning their bodies, who doesn't love that kind of passion.
Anyway, the game between these two is at lunchtime, can Liverpool as they love to do throw a spanner in United's title challenge? It's weird that when Liverpool were great United would do them virtually every year, now United challenge virtually every year and one the Prem title a tonne over the last 15 years, Liverpool tend to do them...

6 Nations Rugby
Croke Park, Dublin - Home to the GAA and Ireland's unique sports of Hurling,Gaelic Football and Camogie is now home to Irish Rugby, if there was any doubts about the Stadium as a home after a flat defeat in its début 2 weeks ago, they were dispelled by the manner in which the English were dismantled, undressed and sent on their way.
With as usual Munstermen to the fore in Irish success, a restored Stringer partnering O'Gara in the half backs and a forward pack dominated by O'Connell, Leamy, Wallace et al, the team captained by Dublin's own storybook captain O'Driscoll, hung 40 plus on England in a 30 point margin of victory never before seen on any rugby field.
Ha ha the joy of it all, watching the hubris filled English commentators swallowing their own bile, as Keith Wood smiled broadly. Early in the day on the BBC's coverage, Brian Moore - a commentator I respect but an Englishman through and through said he fancied England to win, Woody almost wet himself with laughter at the mere thought, a smile broadly appeared across his face and a chuckle emerged from his lips, the Clare man full if belief that his Irish brethren would carry the day, I don't see the same result as Brian he said, and he was proven correct as the Irish demolished England's Grand Slam and Championship dreams in pouring rain.
Andy Farrell is a 750000 pound misfit at Centre and Danny Grewcook, was almost man of the match of Ireland thanks to his always can be relied upon, sin binning. The Irish midfiled exposed Farrell for what he is a lumbering hulk of a Rugby League player out of place in the swifter constantly moving world of Union, ho hum, poor little England, I would have liked to see Rob Andrew's arrogant little countenance at full time but alas to no avail, it was enough to see Jonny Jaundice trudge thoroughly hammered.
In the other games, Scotland gave Italy their first away win gifting 3 tries in the first 7 minutes and France continued their roll to the championship despatching Wales with a second string team.

Murray retains title
Andy Murray, the 19 year old Scottish tennis star, retained his SAP San Jose Open Title, yesterday following up his semi final won over Andy Roddick, he came back from a set and a break down to beat behemoth massive serving Ivo Karlovic.
Murray stays at world no 13 after this win and improves his chance of moving into the top 10 in the next few months, good stuff for him, he just looks the real deal tournament by tournament, he was of only 2 players last year to beat Federer, he should have beaten Nadal at the Australian Open and seems to be amongst the elite players in the game now. He will only get better and he is getting physically stronger which was his downfall over the previous 18 months.
Good luck to you Mr Murray, we expect great things over the coming years, but I hope you do not become burdened by the ridiculous expectations of the British Media and public.

FA Cup
Big weekend of FA Cup football, quality seeing sunny winter days, hard pitches and small grounds.
Saturday saw Blackburn grind out a draw versus Arsenal and Man Utd mess around and end up going to a replay versus Reading.
Both of these results raise interesting questions. Firstly, Arsenal struggled again versus a team set out to frustrate them, they really are one dimension, it may be a pretty dimension, but they are lots of style and little substance, Henry who is hailed as being a great of the modern game, but it is obvious that something is amiss with the Frenchman, he is more petulant than usual, he got involved in a nasty spat with Kirkland the Wigan Goalkeeper last week and is failing to influence games, to the degree that Arsenal looked more effective when they played with Van Persie and Adebayor when Henry was injured. In form he is an irresistible force he is not in form right now.
Equally of note from that game was the spat at the full time whistle, between teenage midfielder Fabregas of Arsenal and Blackburn's manager Mark Hughes, now I appreciate Fabregas is young but he must have knowledge of Hughes, a great player in his time and a multiple FA Cup and League winner with Man Utd and Chelsea, more relevantly though perhaps is that fact that he was HARD AS NAILS, and knocked defenders all over the park in his pomp, he also had a short fuse and didn't take crap from anyone, I vividly remember him giving a Sheffield United defender a boot up the arse after he'd committed a foul against Hughes. Not a man to be trifled with, someone really should school these youngsters about who to take on and who not to. A quick note for Cesc, don't mess with Pearce at Man City either...
Reading got a draw when they were hammered at OT versus Man Utd, they should have lost by 3 or 4 but scored a set piece and saw it out. Job done. Teams have no obligation to get hammered by taking on the best teams as they are man for man less talented than Man Utd's lesser strength team or Arsenal's, they have an obligation to try to do the right thing for them, which Reading did in earning a money spinning replay, and their fans get the chance to host Utd and it gives Reading a better chance of progressing than going to OT and trying to ply with Utd. Of course the team picked by Steve Coppell was criticised prior to the game by the media as it was an 'understrength' side, as always we learn that they know little...
Sunday's games were poor Man City outplayed, outfought and out muscled Preston in a game PNE hope to repeat next year in the top division, another impressive performance from Nugent against Premiership opposition is likely to see him in that League next year whether his team mates are or not.
Fulham dominated large sections of the game against Spurs, had no cutting edge and ended up getting beat 0-4. Shame for them but Spurs could be a decent gamble for this year's Cup.

Daddy Daddy
It's a Saturday so there's a load of sport to talk about, FA Cup football in England, a full slate of normal end of winter stuff is out there, and at some time over the weekend I'll get to it but I wanted to talk about the weird voodoo surrogate father stuff Alex Ferguson must pull with his players.
Today Ruud van Nistelrooy, ex Manu striker, current Real Madrid forward, Dutch International and grown assed man, he is a married 30 year old, is talking like a small boy abandoned by his daddy. In an interview with World Soccer magazine, (which I always see in WH Smiths at train stations and airports but never see anyone reading) he talks of Fergie 'kicking his soul' when he left him out of a Cup Final team last year - WHAT!?!? You didn't play in the team to get to the Final, SAF said he was sticking with the players who got him there, did and they won. Ruud felt that things died between them...how bizarre. He is your manager your boss your de facto employer and you're acting like he came home drunk from the pub and beat you with a belt.
Now cast back thy mind to a certain other Real Madrid player, ex-Manu midfielder David Beckham, and the psychological effects he spoke of being cast aside by Ferguson and United, of course cast aside is a relative term, he was sold for 20 something mill to Spain and a huge salary awaited him, not quite like being tossed on the scrapheap, now Beckham was a boy when he first got involved with SAF's ju-ju, so in some ways you could appreciate that there could have been a surrogate father type relationship formed as he was young, but Van Nistelrooy was in his twenties, then you think of all the ex-Ferguson players who are managers and they all go back to 'daddy' for advise support and help, what does he do to them is he a cult leader the cult of Fergie. I'd love to see the meetings...

What's it all about
This is a blog that's been inspired by the really good blogs I read that are based around US sports, I wanted to get one that was like those but featured UK/World sports. Those blogs are great because they feel like conversations you'd have down the pub over a beer.
There will be some US sports stuff in here, but it'll probably focus on football mainly, with rugby cricket golf tennis athletics tiddlywinks pretty much anything that catches my attention in the wide world of sports to horribly use a cliché.
Game on.
Oh yeah and since comments are enabled I'd actively encourage anyone dropping by to get involved, like I say let's have a pub chat about stuff interesting you too.
